Pants!

Excerpt from a book I am reading about applying for jobs…

“For those women who are still convinced that pants are acceptable interview attire, listen to the worse of one career counselor from a prestigious New England college:

I had a student who told me that since she knew women in her industry often wore pants to work, she was going to wear pants to her interviews. Almost every recruiter commented that her pants were ‘too casual’ and even referred to her as ‘the one with the pants.’ “

Surprisingly, it was published in 2010 and not 1950. Ridiculous. And for the record, I’ve worn pants to every job interview I’ve ever had, and I’ve been hired quite a few times, thanks.

“The Year of the Girl is only a beginning. We can’t transform American leadership in a year, but we can transform expectations in a year. We can transform awareness in a year. We can set in motion a generational change, and make certain that a baby girl born in 2012 will experience her life in a new and vastly different world. If not us, who? If not now, when? When girls succeed, so does society.”

Obama calls the GOP out for being a bunch of fuckheads.  Yes, that’s proper political terminology.

USA Today reports young people don't care about feminism

jessicavalenti:

Prove them different. Comment at the article, tweet at the reporter, or write a letter to the editor. Don’t let the tired “feminism is dead” bullshit fly!

“I think people think it’s a bit unattractive for a girl to be talking about things like that all the time,” says Szal, of New Hope, Pa. “You get a little stigmatized, like ‘pushy’ or ‘problematic’ or ‘troublesome’ or ‘a lot to handle.’” — I don’t know about anybody else, but I’m happy being called any of these things.  Better than passive, meek or proper.  Women who behave rarely make history, people.

The demand for equal rights in every vocation of life is just and fair; but, after all, the most vital right is the right to love and be loved.
