Beyond Bound Journals

Hi! Sorry to be intrusive, but I saw the picture of your new Philly view, and it's spectacular! Congrats. :) I'm actually moving to Philly in the fall, but I'm pretty clueless when it comes to safe neighborhoods, or fun/young places to live. How's your experience been thus far?

Not intrusive at all!  While I only just moved in, I have been spending a lot of time in Philly over the past three years or so.  I live in Rittenhouse Square, which has a lot of great places (restaurants, bars, shops) to walk to…and the park of course, but it’s a bit expensive.  Lots of young professionals here.  Northern Liberties is a great up and coming neighborhood that is way more affordable, full of mostly young hipster types, and again lots of great bars and restaurants.  When I looked for apartments, I looked anywhere in Center City, Olde City, Rittenhouse Square and Washington Square West.  South Philly can get a bit dicey but is improving…personally, I’d stay in the Graduate Hospital or Italian Market areas there.

No matter where you end up, Philly is a great city and is easy to get around in.  It has a good music/arts scene, is big on sports and has lots of great food.  The only down side to living here is if you bring a car, parking is usually a nightmare.  I have a temporary parking permit right now, and I’m going to see how it goes for this month.  Hope this helps you on your move!
